Medical Assistants are at the very heart of healthcare and function as a vital part of the healthcare team. The Medical Assisting program will prepare you to be a multi-skilled healthcare professional who is qualified to perform administrative, clinical and laboratory procedures. Coursework includes instruction in scheduling appointments, coding and processing insurance accounts, billing, collections, computer operations; assisting with examinations/treatments, performing routine laboratory procedures, electrocardiography, supervised medication administration; and ethical/ legal issues associated with patient care. WPCC has state of the art facilities in administrative, clinical and lab settings.

Why choose Western Piedmont Community College for medical assisting training?
The WPCC Medical Assisting program was started in 1969 and was the first accredited program in the state of North Carolina and the 12th Accredited Medical Assisting program in the nation. Graduates of the diploma and/or degree are eligible to sit for the certification examination administered by the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants. Successful completion of this examination results in the professional credential- CMA (AAMA). Each year the WPCC Medical Assisting graduates score consistently higher on the certification exam than the national average.
